Crap.
The tropical depression has just been updated to a
tropical storm named Katrina!
Up to 15" of rain could fall on our little
noggins. And starting on Thursday, too.
Big boo- hoooooooooooo....
It'll hit Miami first, then travel across the state to
torture me here on the other coast.

across Florida, then the gulf and hit New Orleans as a Category 3
hurricane.

South Florida Under Hurricane Watch
MIAMI - Tropical Storm Katrina formed Wednesday
morning in the Bahamas and could reach hurricane strength before hitting
Florida later this week, the National Hurricane Center said.
A tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch were
posted for a 150-mile stretch of Florida's southeast coast from Florida
City north to Vero Beach, meaning tropical storm conditions were likely by
late Thursday.
"It's time for South Florida to start taking
precautions," said Eric Blake, a hurricane center meteorologist.
Because of Katrina, Gov. Jeb Bush canceled a business
trip to Peru that was to begin later Wednesday and planned to return to
Florida from Virginia, where he was attending a hearing on military base
realignment.
At 11 a.m., the season's 11th named storm had
sustained wind of 40 mph and was centered about 50 miles east-southeast of
Nassau, or about 230 miles east-southeast of Florida. It was moving toward
the north-northwest at 8 mph.
Katrina could reach hurricane strength, with sustained
wind blowing at 74 mph, before making landfall Thursday, the hurricane center
said.

Start gettin' my room ready, Rainbow2! But, seriously,
thank you ever so much for your generosity! You are too, too kind.
However, for reasons only beknownst to moi, I cannot
flee - and must remain to face the inevitable. I shall have to head for
higher ground. Like a high rise hotel perhaps!
It is a monster in red on the weather channel! OMG! I
hadn't a clue it was so large! And now it's heading due west. Brother.
I shall have to pack a little suitcase and trott off
to Ft. Myers.... before it's too late. They say it's moving slowly and
thus, will dump tons of rain on us and thus we shall flood flood flood.
Uh oh.

Mister Lady
I live in Mass..we just had a thunderstorm go through
..in 20 minutes we got over an inch of rain...a hail storm..and the temp
went from 82 to 62
the grass looks like it has snow all over it..very
strange.
but I will take this over 15 inches of rain...stay
safe..and let us know when you return home.
do you keep a suitcase packed all the time..it seems
you are running to high ground all the time.

Good luck Misterlady. Looks like
you are under the gun for a hit according to the 11 oclock reports.
Considering how close to landfall Katrina is, it is disconcerting to see so
much divergence in the model suite. I would not be surprised if she does
not move as forecast as there are too many varilables as of now.
stay safe!

I'm headed for a highrise hotel in
the next town up. Made my reservations
last night. I'm not about to stay in a one level building that only sits
above the ground by just over a foot. This place floods in just a downpour.
I saw the news warning of tornadoes - that is rather
unnerving, but I think it'll be okay. I'm just glad it has to cross the
state first. Hopefully that will make it die down.
Where is goes afterwards is anyone's guess.
Anyway, off to pack and evacuate. Thanks for your
well-wishes!

My son is heading there now. I
couldn't stop worrying about him this time. As of this afternoon it looks
like he'll head right into the storm.

If it helps MisterLady - We make tenative evac. plans
every time there's a tropical storm in the Gulf, or even a threat to our
coast from the East Coast.
This time - we have a hotel booked *just in case* We
found a hotel that takes pets, and we can cancel without penalty as late as
6:00 p.m.
Good luck - I've been thinking of you in Naples.
