Wasn't sure where to post this..its just a comment about Irene.

I live in upstate new York, and had never really experienced a TS/hurricane to the extent that I did the past few days. The wind and rain was incredible, and I have a new appreciation of what the folks in the hurricane prone parts of the US go through every year. I will take our blizzards any day.

The reason for my post is this-
My daughter and I spent the night in our basement, fearful that trees would crash onto our house. The power went out, and it was just a scary night for us, and our 2 dogs. The flooding rain and howling wind seemed to go on forever. But of course, it didn't, and the next morning, we emerged to assess whatever damage was done. Thankfully, we were luckier than most and the house and trees were intact.

Now, I don't know if this is typical post-hurricane weather, but as we stepped onto our deck, we were in the middle of the most beautiful weather I have ever experienced. The sun was actually glittering in a robins egg blue sky. There were puffy white clouds and a crisp, cool breeze. The colors of the leaves and flowers were more intense..it was just wonderful. My daughter and I looked at one another and smiled. If Heaven has weather..this was it.

I know I will always remember those first few moments.

 We were safe, and together.

And it just reminded me that the little things in life are not little at all. They are everything.

venustra what a wonderful post.  Smiley
I too found the weather absolutely beautiful after Irene.  I opened
the doors to let that crisp air in.  The birds were singing in celebration,
I think.  It was a lovely experience.
